Summer Styles

Although at times it has felt like summer as early in the year as February, summer officially arrives on June 21. Roll out the beach blankets and fire up the grill. This summer’s fashions are sure to sizzle.
Swimsuits & Covers
I dread swimsuit shopping and I suspect, unless you are model material, this is a common sentiment. Fortunately summer swim styles go further than just the classic bikini or one-piece. Consider a throwback to a pinup style suit. These come in one and two pieces. These suits show off your lovely curves while holding in your tummy when needed. The high waist, full coverage bottoms allow ladies of all shapes to enjoy this style. Have fun with the look. Wear some sexy red lipstick, cute wedges and a big sun hat to the pool. If you’re looking for something fun and daring, try the fringe top bikini and, if you are more into one-piece options, try one with side cutouts for a flattering yet modest option. The stores have many swimsuit cover-up options as well. There is everything from mesh mini dresses to mid-calf kaftans at stores such as H&M and Macy’s. Don’t forget the sunscreen.
Palazzo Pants
Some may recall this trend from the ’90s (cough, cough) but as with many fashion trends the good ones come back around. I recently picked up a pair of these lovelies at Francesca’s Collections. I was shopping for a fun summer dress for my son’s first communion when I stumbled upon the bright blue and white zigzag pattern.  It caught my eye so I tried them on. Here are the two best things about my new palazzo pants: they are the next best thing to wearing pajama’s to work and they look chic and stylish. For $38, I could not pass them up. Pair them with a loose fitting crop top or a fitted tank for the perfect summer look.
Why do I love shoe shopping for summer?  There are two main reasons. The first reason is that I love a good strappy sandal, a comfortable pair of flip-flops and a great tall cork-bottom wedge. At barely 5 feet tall, wedges are sometimes my only hope if I want to look someone in the eye. I enjoy changing my toe-nail color as often as changing my outfit so summer sandals have a special place in my heart. The second reason is throughout life’s
(and the scale’s) ups and downs, my shoe size remains the same. If you want to see some great summer sandals head over to Aldo and DSW. You are sure to find something comfortable and stylish. Metal pieces are very trendy this season with gold and silver plates added to simple flat T-strap sandals adding flare and excitement to your footwear.
Summer is all about loose-fitting and comfortable styles, bright colors and bold patterns.  Make a statement at your summer parties this year, and trust me on those palazzo pants.  You won’t be sorry. See you at the mall!
